Jumble Hole to Hippins

1) The start of this path is about 2km from Hebden Bridge towards Todmorden. You can reach it by walking along the canal or by catching a bus. Get off the bus at the stop just past the pedestrian crossing traffic lights next to the sewage treatment works.

2) The link path starts at the junction of Halifax Road (A646) and Jumble Hole Road.

3) Walk up Jumble Hole Road passing houses on your right and, with the stream to your left, follow the road uphill until it bends and crosses the stream. Pass to the side of a locked gate and continue uphill round a bend.

4) At the next bend in the road, keep straight on into the wood and continue climbing through the wood ignoring paths to the left or right until you reach a T junction where you turn right.

5) The path descends for a few metres to the ruins of Staups Mill. Take the steps to the left of the mill and continue along the path to a bridge across the stream.

6) Cross the bridge onto some steps taking you up to a diagonal path leading to a gap in the wall in front of you. Don’t pass through the gap; instead, turn left along the wall to Hippins where you meet the Calderdale Way.

Hippins to Jumble Hole

1) This is the sign for the link path from Hippins.

2) Follow the path next to the wall until you reach a post with way marks next to a gap in the wall. Here go half right to take the diagonal path across the field towards a large stone and down some steps to a bridge over the stream. Cross the bridge and continue along the path following the stream to the ruins of Staups Mill on your left.

3) After the mill bear slightly right and walk a few metres uphill to a post indicating the link path to your left. Turn left and follow the path downhill to where it meets a bend in a concrete road. Turn left onto the road and continue downhill round two bends to a gate where it meets a bend in another road.

4)  Follow this road downhill to the right until you meet the main Halifax Road (A646) where you can catch a bus or turn left and walk back into Hebden Bridge.
