Hebden Bridge to Allswell Farm

1) From St George’s Square in the centre of town take the road up past the White Lion hotel to meet the Keighley Road (A6033) and then turn left.

2) Follow this busy road uphill for about 500m. Cross the road at the traffic lights. Then, just before a bend in the road, turn right into Nutclough Woods.

3) Follow the path through a gate and continue straight, taking the steps to the left of a wall in front of you.

4) After a few metres, take the steps to the left, just before a metal bench, onto the waymarked path up through the woods.

5) Continue upwards with the stream to your right until you reach a bridge crossing the stream.

6) Cross the stream and double back on the opposite side, continuing towards the houses where the path meets a road.  Turn left and walk up the road for about 500m.  At the crest of the hill ignore the road to the right and descend for about 100m to the sharp bend at the bottom.

7) At this bend pass through a gap in the wall in front of you and follow the steps and the ascending path.

8) Continue upwards through a squeeze stile onto a path running alongside a housing estate and into a garden where you leave by a waymarked gate onto a track. Follow the track passing Old Town School playground to right until you reach a main road where the Old Town Post Office and café is on your left.

9) Turn left, cross the road and immediately turn right up another track.

10) At the top of the track, next to a house, turn left up a rough path until you reach a concrete road. Turn right and follow the road upwards passing a large barn on the left and houses on the right. This is Allswell Farm.

11) At the end of the road there is a stile at the left of a steel gate. The stile is the official path, but most people use the gate, making for easier passage onto the moor beyond. Don’t forget to close the gate! The Calderdale Way is now just about 50m above this point.

Allswell Farm to Hebden Bridge

1) From the Calderdale Way head towards the house with the white gable end which is Allswell Farm, and pass through the gate or over the stile on to the road beyond.

    2) Walk down the road where it bends to the right turn left onto a waymarked path. Follow this rough path for about 100m towards a house where it meets a track to right.

    3) Continue down the track to where it meets Billy Lane, with the Old Town PO and café across the road. Turn left, cross the road, and immediately turn right along a track between the PO and the school.

    4) At the bottom of the track go through the waymarked gate into a garden and onto a path with a housing estate on your right.

    5) Walk down the path, through a squeeze stile, down some steps, and through another squeeze stile onto a road.

    6) Turn left on the road, up a short incline, and then continue down the road for about 500m until you reach a group of houses on the right.

    7) Find a path on the right behind the end of the white house and walk down to the bridge. Cross the bridge and double back onto the other side of the stream.

    8) Follow the path downhill next to the stream all the way until you reach the main Keighley Road (A6033). Turn left, cross the road at the traffic lights, and continue down the road to the bottom where you turn right at the White Lion into the centre of town.
